Whenever a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
- Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
